The Work
The 2CV was built for farmers. Two horsepower, a canvas roof, and a suspension specified to cross a plowed field without breaking the eggs. It became an icon the way most icons do, by being ordinary for forty years until suddenly it wasn't. Rue Galande runs a few steps from Notre-Dame, and nobody standing here is looking at the cathedral. This is the Paris people mean when they say they want to live there rather than see it. A blue car parked on a Tuesday, a red awning, the sense that whoever owns it went in for bread and will be back in a minute. Some rooms feel visited. This one makes a room feel lived in.
