From Chaos to Camera: The Shot That Almost Got Away

There’s no driving in Zermatt. And whil...
Recognized by 1x.com, Club Noir, and UCP as Photographer of the Year two years in a row— honors not easily earned. Each image here has been curated, celebrated, and chosen for its power to endure. If it’s on your wall, it says something. About you. About what matters.
I’d been up since 5 a.m., chasing first light along the famous ridge.
Caught the mountain train just before 7, captured the alpenglow, and felt sure I had the shot I came for.
But the first train back to Zermatt wasn’t until 9:30.
So there we were—stranded, cold, tired, and hungry—but utterly awed by the winter silence around us.
By the time the return train finally arrived, I was done.
My camera was packed. I was dreaming of coffee, warmth, and a well-earned nap.
Then the train rounded a curve.
And the Matterhorn appeared again—stark, luminous, rising like a monument from shadow.
I threw my jacket over my head to cut glare, braced against the glass, and fired.
One image. One chance. No time to recompose.
This is that moment—unexpected, unplanned, unforgettable.
Awarded Photographer of the Year (Club Noir, 2023), this fine art black and white image is a tribute to the power of presence…
